Industrial Placement as a Research Administrator, extended to include a summer placement. Returned for summer 2017 and 2018.

Research
Project: COVID-19 and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Three month placement as part of the University of Leeds Team. DECOVID uses data from electronic patient records to answer clinically important questions related to COVID-19.
Project: Dissecting the function and molecular evolution of long non-coding RNAs.
Project: A computational analysis of the conservation of long non-coding RNA and dicistronic genes in Drosophila.
Teaching
Teaching on a two half-day course for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Co-lead for beginners session on analysis workflows and file formats, and facilitating round table discussions.
Providing remote support for Masters students transferred from a wet to dry lab project during the Covid-19 pandemic. Featured in the biochemical society webinar series; “How to deliver biomolecular science honours research projects with limited lab bench time”.
Demonstrator for computational practical classes and courses, teaching undergraduates and post graduate researchers. Lead demonstrator for a computational practical class of 70 students, and responsible for subsequent support and marking of assignments.
Demonstrating at an Introduction to RNA-Seq Data Analysis Workshop, teaching post graduate researchers.
Projects
An online resource created during the COVID-19 pandemic to support students transferred from wet to remote dry lab projects at short notice.
Outreach
Moderator at live online shows at the University of Leeds annual research open event.
Working as part of a team to create an educational, virtual activity. We prioritised accessibility and affordability.
Volunteering on the Athena Swan stand, working with school children to expand their idea of who can be a scientist.
Volunteer at a patient event, facilitating discussion around sensitive topics in order to direct future research and initiatives.
